Our Primary children had the chance to experience the beauties of nature at CyHerbia. It was a wonderful opportunity to see herbs and plants growing in the carefully tended grounds. The children had worksheets to guide them through their learning about how things grow, and enjoyed their morning outdoors.
Three enterprising teams of young entrepreneurs from the Falcon have set up “mini-companies” which are participating in the Trade Fair at the Mall of Cyprus on Saturday 28th March.
The winners of the competition, which has entries from 22 schools from all over Cyprus, will have the chance to participate in a European competition later in the year.
Our Kindergarten and Reception children took part in an Art Competition organised by CopyPaste Centre with the theme "I draw love". Children donated €2 towards Pasykaf as an entry fee. David Savin from PR won the 3rd prize amongst the entries from all participating schools in Nicosia. Well done to all the children for the quality and imagination of their drawings.
Once again, our Falcon delegations proved their debating and problem solving worth at the annual MediMUN conference at the European University.
Falcon students of all ages participated in the Grammar School’s 4th InterSchool Track and Field Meeting. The competition was enjoyable for all concerned, and led to a number of medals for our talented athletes.
Chrysostomos Petrou of our Sixth Form won the Silver medal in the High Jump event of the Pan-Nicosian Track and Field games this March. Congratulations on his jump of 1m 80cm, which wins him a place in the Pan-Cyprian games later this year.
Members of our Falcon Cub Scouts paid a visit to Pizza Hut in Nicosia, not to order pizza, but to learn about how pizza is made in a large restaurant kitchen. The welcoming chefs and staff made this a most enjoyable and informative visit … in the end there was plenty of pizza to go round!
Our Primary department celebrated International Hat Day by looking at a variety of different hats from all over the world during Assembly. Some of their teachers could not resist the chance of wearing their favourite hats …..
Our Primary students of all ages took the opportunity to enjoy days in the snow under sunny Troodos skies, learning how to ski with the help of their teachers.
Every year all our 5th Form students participate in a European Youth Parliament simulation as part of their IGCSE English Language syllabus. A number of English lessons are devoted to planning and writing formal resolutions and then debating the topics in a plenary session. Other students from the 6th and 7th Forms are drafted in to chair the debates, drawing on their own past EYP experience. To a great extent, the Falcon EYP simulation has contributed to our record of success in National and International EYP sessions.
Antonia Psalti, who is in our 5th Form, studying for her IGCSEs this year, has been awarded the prestigious Young Artist Award by the University of Cyprus and Telemachos Kanthos Foundation. Antonia’s work, which forms part of her IGCSE preparation, was inspired by her 12 years of Classical Ballet training.
A number of our early-risers from the Primary and Secondary Departments set off on Saturday 8th November for the annual Sponsored Walk in Athalassa forest. They were joined on the way by teachers and parents who also enjoyed a very pleasant morning in the woods in aid of a good cause.
Our Model United Nations delegations travelled to the English School to participate in the Training Day for this year’s Mediterranean Model United Nations. In addition, two Falcon Students have taken on prestigious roles as Chairs of two of the General Assemblies. Our students are always pleased to participate in this conference and carry on our long tradition of support as one of the first Schools in Cyprus to take part in MediMUN.
Primary Classes Raise Funds for Syrian Refugees
Our Primary children and their teachers threw themselves whole-heartedly into fund-raising for the Syrian refugees who are based in Cyprus awaiting relocation. The children brought in good quality toys and games to buy and sell, with all proceeds going to help buy essentials for the refugees. Any toys left over at the end of the day were donated to the children of the refugee camp.
Primary Water Sports in the Pool
The Primary Water Sports Club have been developing a wide range of water skills in the swimming pool.
Primary Water Sports Club Visit Dhekelia
The Primary Water Sports Club travelled to Dhekelia to test out the skills they have been practising in the safety of our swimming pool. In surprisingly warm water for the time of year, they enjoyed sailing and capsizing canoes to test out their ability to escape!

Falcon Primary swimmers participated in the Grammar School’s Swimming Competition before half term, while their classmates joined the spectators to cheer them on.
Falcon at the 28th October March
Falcon students proudly represented their School at the annual 28th October parade in Nicosia. The marchers deserve congratulations and praise for their disciplined and dignified performance.
Falcon at “Play Me, I’m Yours”
Falcon Primary and Secondary students have been taking the opportunity to show their musical talents in public as part of the “Play Me, I’m Yours” initiative around Nicosia.
Cyprus Rugby Federation Assembly
Representatives of the Cyprus Rugby Federation and the Cyprus National Rugby Team visited our Secondary Department for a Friday assembly on the sports pitch. Mr Vasiliades introduced the basic idea of the game of Rugby and then there was a demonstration of skills. This was especially useful for the Senior Boys and Girls since the PE programme for the next half term will introduce the game of Tag Rugby.
Falcon Secondary Swimmers Take On Grammar School Challenge
Falcon swimmers were happy once again to travel to the Grammar School and take part in the InterSchool Swimming Competition. Eleni Pouri and Valeria Stylianou were fine ambassadors or our School.
Primary Excursion to Platania 2014
A sunny October day provided the perfect conditions for our annual trip to the mountains. Primary children, parents and teachers took the opportunity to enjoy a day away from Nicosia and work.
Falcon Early Years Artists
Our KG and PR classes have been experimenting with paint techniques in their Art lessons just recently, finding out what happens when you blow paint through a straw ….
Our Falcon Biathletes ran and swam to victory in Larnaca last week. Sarah John came first in her event, while all our other sportsmen and women put in a sterling effort. Congratulations to them all.
Primary Beach Trip
Our Primary children enjoyed a day of sea and sun in Larnaca with their teachers. It was a great chance to unwind after all the lessons of the year and the recent exams!
Cub Scout Camp
Our Cub Scouts spent an adventurous weekend away from home under the care of their Cub Scout Leaders. The mountains and camping out provided the kind of challenge to test their mettle while having plenty of fun.
Primary 4, 5 and 6 visit the Bank of Cyprus Geology Exhibition
The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Centre has curated a very interesting exhibition of Cyprus’ geological past, which P4, P5 and P6 had the opportunity to visit just recently. Since the Geography and History of Cyprus feature in the curriculum for these classes, the children were able to experience real examples of what they have been learning in the classroom.
Mothers Day Assembly
On Mothers Day we are proud to invite all our children’s mothers to the annual Mothers Day Assembly. Each class prepares a special presentation about their wonderful mothers to say a big ‘Thank You!’
Fire Games at the Falcon
The Cyprus Fire Department held their annual Fire Games at our School this year. It was a pleasure to host such a professional group of men and women, who are committed to their calling of saving lives and property. Seven teams took part and treated a large crowd of spectators to a display of skills and stamina, in which the EMAK team were victorious. Our Director, Ms Ierides, was presented with a memento to commemorate the event.
P6 and P5 visit Historic Castles
Our Primary Department historians left their classrooms recently to travel back in time to the castles in Limassol and Paphos. They were able to experience first-hand the things that they have been learning about Cyprus’ military past and the many armies which have visited our shores.
EYP National Selection 2014
We are proud to announce that once again our EYP delegates have secured a place for our school at the next national session of the European Youth Parliament which will be held at the University of Central Lancashire in September.
Falcon delegates have been present at every national session since EYP was first introduced in Cyprus.
Boston Players visit Falcon
We were very happy to host a visit from the Boston Players, group of Performing Arts students and their tutors from the UK. They led workshops with our Primary students throughout the morning, teaching skills of performing, dancing and singing.
The day concluded with a performance of song and dance in our main Theatre, where the refurbishment project is well under way.
The Boston students reported that they had never had such an appreciative audience, and they were very flattered that our Primary children wanted their autographs!
Secondary 3 Field Trip to Old Nicosia
Our 3rd Form Historians visited Old Nicosia during one of their History lessons recently to study the way that our city has changed over time.
Falcon Charity Fund
Every year our students try very hard to give something back to society through the activities of the Charity Fund. Each Friday during term-time a collection is made by the Charity Representatives of every class, and there are regular fund-raising events, such as Bake Sales and sponsored activities.
So far this year, our students have donated a total of €5314.75 to a variety of causes, including Alkionides, Arodaphnousa, Every Child and other local and international charities.
We pride ourselves on being a School which cares deeply about important things: caring for others, whether they are close to home or distant strangers, is one of our important values.
Cyprus Fire Department Assembly
Ahead of the Cyprus Fire Department’s Annual “Fire Games” which we hosted at the School this year, two of Nicosia’s firemen visited us to explain the work of the Fire Department, and how to react if we are ever involved in a fire.
They demonstrated the equipment and explained the skills needed to be a successful fireman or woman.
Falcon Primary Sports Success
Our senior Primary sports teams participated in the recent Futsal Tournaments hosted at the Grammar School. The Girls Team played superbly, and finished the Tournament without losing a match.

Falcon Talent Show 2014
It was a proud, exciting and emotional moment when we were finally able to return to our Theatre for this year’s Talent Show.
The unanimous opinion of the audience was that the acts, the presenters and the organisation of this year’s Show were some of the best that we have ever seen.
Congratulations to all the talented students who have done themselves, and their School proud.
Falcon play for children with special needs
Many Falcon students, both past and present, participated in a Charity concert for children with special needs, which was held at the Paphos Gate on Wednesday 2nd April. There was a varied programme of music and song, featuring the vocal and instrumental talents of our students.
Greek Mythology in an Hour … or so
Our Drama Club has been working very hard, preparing for this week’s production of “Greek Mythology in an Hour … or so”. The performance will take place on Thursday 3rd April and tickets are on sale now!
Falcon Delegation travel to Riga, Latvia for International EYP Conference
Three Falcon students were selected by the European Youth Parliament National Committee to represent Cyprus at the International Session in Latvia this March. Fania Christodoulides, Anastasia Mouskou and Kyprianos Spyrou, accompanied by their teacher, Ms Andri Georgiou, spent 10 hectic and uplifting days, team-building, participating in committee work and debating. The trip was sponsored by The Falcon School in association with a number of local businesses and institutions, whose valuable contribution was highly appreciated.
PR and P1 visit the Riverland Farm
Some of our youngest students visited the Riverland Farm, where they spent a wonderful morning earning about how food is produced. They saw how vegetables are grown, and how animals like lambs and kids are raised.
Mny thanks to our friends at Riverland, who are always so welcoming and helpful in engaging the children in their learning.
Primary Assembly about Keeping Teeth Healthy and Clean
Our Primary students were reminded about the importance of brushing teeth regularly by Dr Thelma Photiou, who visited us at Assembly Time. Dr Photiou gave an interesting presentation all about dental health, and how to avoid problems with our teeth.
Inter-school Sports Day 2014
It was a great privilege to be able to invite students from local Primary Schools to take part in another morning of sports activities. All students had the opportunity to play against each other in teams made up of children from different schools. It was a chance to meet and play with people from all around the area.
Falcon Book Days 2014
Each year we celebrate books and reading during our Book Week. This year our Primary Department welcomed Rebekkah Cavendish, a local author, whose book “It’s Wonderful Having Friends” is on sale in aid of Cancer Research.
Rebekkah visited all our classrooms to read to the children, and spoke about being an author to the older Primary classes.
We have also been enjoying a wonderful exhibition of books staged by Academic and General Bookshop of Larnaca, and each class has been visiting the display to browse through the titles on show.
The children have been thinking about which book they would most like to take on a journey with them, and they have all designed Post Cards with their favourite books on them. Anita, Jason and Zoe from Academic and General will choose winning Post Cards on Friday and award Book Prizes.
Falcon Carnival 2014
Our Primary and Secondary Departments dressed up for Charity at Carnival this year, donating the proceeds of a collection to helping a fellow student from another school who is undergoing medical treatment in Germany.
There were some imaginative and creative costumes, which the students displayed in a Carnival parade for the Primary, and in a Best Costume competition for the Secondary.
Katie Kapodistria from our 6th Form made us all very proud when she was “head-hunted” by the organizers of the Scottish Model United Nations. She spent a hectic few days in Scotland before half-term and arrived back in Cyprus with some exciting tales and vivid memories.
Safer Internet Day
Primary 6 prepared a number of interesting and effective presentations and displays in ICT, inviting the rest of the School to come and learn more about staying safe online. Teachers and their classes were able to browse the information and ask questions of the very knowledgeable and capable computing enthusiasts.
Theatre Music Score
We are very proud of Constantinos Demetriou of Secondary 4, who has written the music for the THOC theatre company’s presentation of “Oi Doules”. Constantinos has written his own original music for school projects before, but this is the first time he has written for the professional stage.
Cambridge Music High Achievers Awards 2014
We are very proud of Mattheo Ioannou and his outstanding achievement in IGCSE Music, for which he has been named Cambridge International Examinations’ High Achiever 2013. The School has already heard one of Mattheo’s pieces performed, when his March was played at last summer’s Graduation Ceremony.
Short Story Competition Winner – 2nd Year Running!
We are very proud once again of Rawan Magdi who received an award for her short story in the Grammar School’s Short Story writing competition. This is the second year running that Rawan has been honoured for her writing. Last year her poetry was published in the literary journal Cadences.
IGCSE Geography Field Trip to Kritou Terra
As part of their fieldwork for IGCSE Geography, our 5th formers travelled to Kritou Terra and the Akamas Peninsula to take part in a structured weekend course. They studied the geology of the area and made their own detailed measurements of features of the area. Although they returned to Nicosia tired out by their experiences, the students and their teacher considered the visit a valuable success.
